Expore the beauty of the Kootenai National Forest

Callahan Creek Trail

Callahan Creek trail is a very moderate out and back located about 2 miles from the town of Troy. It is an interpretive trail that follows the old railroad bed that was utilized in the 1900s for mining and logging operations. It is 4 miles round-trip, and takes about 2-3 hours to complete.

Alvord Lake Trail

This interpretive trail is part of the old route from Libby to Troy, and contains benches along the way and signs explaining native flora and fauna and the history of the old highway and Kootenai Falls. It is 2.3 miles one-way, with moderate elevation gain, and contains striking views of the Kootenai Falls and Swinging Bridge scenic area. If desired, there is a short, steep trail branching off that leads to Shannon Lake – a small, beautiful lake tucked into the mountain.

Kootenai Trail

The Kootenai Trail begins across the river from the popular Kootenai Falls and Swinging Bridge scenic area, and climbs about 2100ft. in 4 miles. The trail contains beautiful views of the Cabinet Mountains and Kootenai River Valley, and pops out on the scenic Kootenai Face overlook on Forest Service Road 4445.
